If you are anything like me, when I first committed to eating and living Paleo, there were still pangs for certain foods to, well, taste like they did before. Pizza Hut pizza is a thing of the past, and now my homemade “paleo” pizza tastes great to me; but it took a while. Same goes for McDonald’s chicken nuggets. Ahhhh… those late nights at the drive-thru, while momentarily comforting, are definitely now a thing of the past! Well I have good news for you; I finally found healthy ground chicken that is worthy of delicious chicken nuggets and are actually made from real food, and the outcome is WAY better than the processed chicken nuggets that we thought used to taste good!
I had tried making chicken nuggets before, with pieces of cut up chicken, egg and coated in almond flour, baked or fried, but they just weren’t very satisfying to my family, so that meal went by the wayside. Now, thanks to a recent find, we have reunited with our old love and are officially savoring Paleo Chicken Nuggets! Our families simple recipe is ground chicken, egg, garlic powder, onion powder and sea salt and pepper to taste. No exact measurements, simply season as desired, knead it all together like a meatloaf, make small “nugget” shaped ground chicken patties, and fry them in coconut oil until browned on both sides and done all the way through. No Need for any breading! Get the oil nice and hot first, and your nuggets will turn out crispy and delicious. Of course, you can make it fancier with different seasonings. You could try some cumin and chili powder for a Mexican flair, or some Italian seasoning and real garlic for Italian nuggets. Get creative and go for it!
Now, on to the clean clothes! When I ordered my ground chicken, I also spent a great amount of time surfing Tropical Traditions’ website and found their Oxygen Bleach. It’s a huge container that will last a long time, and I can use it not only as bleach, but it’s also safe on colors, upholstery, and cleaning many other areas of my home, while still being good for the environment. I’ve tried environmentally-friendly detergents before and, well, I’ve been disappointed. I either had to use way too much, or they just didn’t clean as effectively as other heavy duty detergents. Based on past experience, I was all geared up to be disappointed and I was SO SO wrong! Below is my Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach love story:
Last weekend while Sarah was filming an episode of Primal Chef, I had the pleasure of squeezing in a visit with her, Jason Seib and his lovely wife, Sheryl. We figured we’d tour around Seattle a bit and take in the sights. Brilliantly, Sarah and I both decided to wear flip flops on a rainy day! But I took this brilliance one step further by wearing white jeans. And I’m not even a tourist! I’m From Seattle! Long story short, the mud-spattering on the back of my white jeans was legendary – Completely up the entire length of my backside, dark brown mud. It was so bad that people were staring. I thought for sure I would just have to chuck them and buy new ones. But, when I got home, my Oxygen Bleach had arrived from Tropical Traditions, so I decided to give it a whirl. I used about 1/2 a scoop of the Oxygen Bleach, soaked the jeans overnight, washed them the next day and they came out CLEAN! I seriously could NOT believe it! If I would have thought it would even work, I would have had the foresight to take a before and after picture!! Needless to say, I’m completely hooked on this stuff now!
