Fruit is not inherently bad, there are just some things you need to know. Fructose, a primary sugar in fruit, is not quite as user-friendly in the human body as glucose. It is easily stored as fat and can be problematic for the liver. In fact, high fructose corn syrup has basically the same effect on the liver as the ethanol alcohol found in your favorite adult beverage. In nature, however, we find fructose present with fiber which slows its absorption and eases the load on the liver, making it less problematic to consume, but still quite easy to store.
“Paleo Treat.” It’s been a big buzz in the paleosphere these days and I typically live in my own little bubble, ignoring the big buzzes and focusing on taking the best care of my family that I can and using what’s left of my energy dedicated to running this little blog, working on books, and helping to run EPLifeFit. I love doing what I do. I am extremely blessed. I am so grateful to be healthy and strong after so many years of not being healthy and strong and I am beyond happy that my kids are healthy, strong and thriving.
I was raised by a health nut, foodie mother who was as adventurous in life as she was in the kitchen. My mom spent several summers in Mexico learning to speak Spanish, and coincidentally helped to fuel my love for the flavors! I have an on going nightly discussion with my 15 year old that goes something like this. “Hey mom, what’s for dinner?” Me, “I don’t know, probably meat and veggies?” My 15 year old, “Duh, I’m not sure why I even ask?” And then we both laugh.
Eating paleo is just that, meat and veggies, not too complex when it comes right down to it, and the good news is – boring is not a part of this lifestyle. [Read more…]
First off – some exciting news – I am writing a book which is scheduled to be released hopefully in February!! The book will of course include recipes as well as advice for paleo beginners and diehards alike.
