On Wednesday I mentioned on my Facebook page that I have family here visiting from the east coast and as I type I’m looking out over the St. Helena mountains from Calistoga. Chico has been a heat and smoke basin, thanks to the multiple fires that have been burning in northern CA so to get some reprieve from the nastiness, we snuck off to wine country for the weekend.
*Note from Sarah: This latest post comes from Dana, our EP Director of Operations and my Personal Lifesaver. Dana’s Paleo journey has evolved in so many ways over the last 1 1/2 years… Today’s post is a snapshot of her journey, and I’m sure that her story will inspire you to start and/or continue on your healthy path!
Dana’s Paleo Journey: Unexpected Life-Altering Results!
We often read stories from people who started eating paleo for very specific reasons; autoimmune issues, life threatening illnesses, serious medical problems, etc. What isn’t often talked about is the folks who hear about paleo and decide NOT to give it a shot simply because they think, “Hey, I’m not sick, why should I change how I eat?” I happened to be one of those people and not until I wanted to change the way that I looked did I give paleo a shot; consequently stepping into a journey that would change my life forever.
One of our favorite summer time activities as a family is to spend the day under a giant oak tree at one of our local parks with a giant paleo picnic. It get’s really darn hot here in Chico but we have tons of trees and shade so often the best reprieve from the Chico heat is to find the coolest spot in the grass with some yummy paleo eats.
Packing a paleo lunch is often a hot topic on my Facebook page and I also receive several questions about what to pack right here on the blog. I have posted several articles before about school lunches which you can read about here but it’s always great to have as many ideas as possible!
Dancing with the Devil
Oh no, just when I think I have it figured out, those gooey, milk chocolate, melt in your mouth, sweet yolk filled eggs appear. Just when I think I have a handle on things, happily skipping through the grocery store, fruits, veggies and lean protein in hand. I stop in my tracks, and, what do I see peering at me across the way. When did they get here?
I happen to receive about 10 million emails a day and I really do try to get through all of them but honestly it would be impossible for me to reply personally to each one, otherwise emailing people would be all that I do. However, from time to time, people are persistent or the timing is right and I read an email that grabs me, yanks me in, and doesn’t let me go. That was the case with a recent email sent to me by Travis Martinez, owner of TX Bar Organics.
“Paleo Treat.” It’s been a big buzz in the paleosphere these days and I typically live in my own little bubble, ignoring the big buzzes and focusing on taking the best care of my family that I can and using what’s left of my energy dedicated to running this little blog, working on books, and helping to run EPLifeFit. I love doing what I do. I am extremely blessed. I am so grateful to be healthy and strong after so many years of not being healthy and strong and I am beyond happy that my kids are healthy, strong and thriving.
